Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC)
The FGDC specification's official name is the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM) but it is commonly referred to as the FGDC. The standard does not specify that it must be implemented in XML, but included below is the NOAA implementation of the FGDC. This implementation is somewhat unusual for such a large schema in that it does not use namespaces.

Linked Environments for Atmospheric Discovery (LEAD) Metadata Schema
The LEAD Metadata Schema (LMS) was developed in the LEAD project as a profile and extension of the FGDC standard and thus will look similar to the FGDC.
ISO 19115 geographic metadata standard
As in the case of the FGDC, the ISO 19115 standard is not required to be implemented as XML. ISO 19139 is is the reference XML implementation of the ISO 19115 standard.

North American Profile (NAP) of ISO 19115
There was a significant effort to harmonize the FGDC and ISO 19115 standards and the NAP is a profile of the ISO 19115 for the United States and Canada.
